Glasgow podcaster and reality TV star James English, aged 42, has appeared in court facing a series of serious allegations related to domestic abuse. He is accused of hitting and kicking his pregnant ex-partner at a flat in Glasgow’s Argyle Street between July 2022 and November 2023. According to court reports, English is alleged to have carried out multiple acts of violence, including seizing her by the neck, pressing his thumbs into her eyebrows causing injuries, and striking her on the face with an open hand. He is also accused of controlling aspects of her life, such as her finances and contact with loved ones, as well as isolating her from her friends and family. The court heard that he repeatedly contacted her by phone, sent threatening and abusive messages, criticized her clothing, and accused her of infidelity. Furthermore, English allegedly searched her belongings, monitored her mobile phone, and made threats to remove their child from her care. He is claimed to have driven her to and from train stations, provided her with expensive gifts and money only to demand their return, and restricted her social media usage to limit her independence. The case was adjourned for further proceedings, with English potentially calling up to nine defense witnesses. He has not yet entered a plea.
